How Guests Find Your Website: The 5 Searches That Matter for a Rental

By Jeremy Gleason

Guests reach a rental's own website through five kinds of search: the area, a nearby park or lake, a feature such as a hot tub, the rental's own name, and the map. Each one is earned differently. Here is what Google's own documentation says about each, and where a single-cabin host can start.

Guests reach a vacation rental website through searches. Five kinds matter: the area, a nearby park or lake, a feature such as a hot tub, the rental’s own name, and the map. Each is earned in a different place.

Google says there are no secrets that “automatically rank your site first.” Its own documentation does say how it finds pages, what it wants on them, and what it treats as spam.

Start with the search you already own. Type your rental’s name into Google. If your website is not the first result, that is the first job, and it costs nothing.
