Overnight Atlas is a directory of independent vacation rentals in the United States and Canada, published by NAFSOB. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. Questions go to listings@overnightatlas.com.

If you are browsing the site

You can read every page without an account. We do not run analytics, advertising trackers or tracking cookies, and we do not set any cookies for visitors.

When someone opens the claim page for a listing, we record which listing it was, the time, and the type of browser or app that opened it. We do not record the IP address or set a cookie. We use this to follow up with hosts we have written to, and we delete these records after 90 days.

Like any website, our host (Hostinger) keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to run and protect the site. The site’s fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google to fetch them, which shares your IP address with Google.

If you fill in a form

Claim a listing. We collect your name, email, the listing, the name for your host profile, and, if you give them, your website, Airbnb and VRBO links, and a message. We use these to confirm the listing is yours, connect your other listings to your profile, and contact you about your claim. We email you a link to confirm your address.

List your rentals. We collect your name, email, business name, website, town, state or province, how many rentals you have and what kinds, any Airbnb or VRBO links, and a message. We use these to review your application and to set up your profile if it is approved.

Request removal. We collect your name, email, the listing, your connection to it and a message, so we can act on the request and reply to you.

To slow down spam, each form briefly records a scrambled form of your IP address. It is deleted automatically within an hour.

Airbnb and VRBO links

If you give us an Airbnb or VRBO link, you give us permission to check your public profile there, including your overall rating and number of reviews, and to find other listings under your name. We use ratings to choose our Best Of and Top 10 lists. Overnight Atlas never shows or links to your Airbnb or VRBO listings unless you ask us to.

If you have a host login

Your login holds your email, your name, your password (stored in scrambled form; we cannot read it) and the date you last signed in. Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in; it is removed when you sign out, or when it expires. Anything you add to your profile, such as descriptions, photos, amenities and links, appears on the public site. Photos you upload must be yours or ones you have the right to use.

Hosts we list before they contact us

We list vacation rental businesses that publish their details on their own websites. For each one we record facts from that public website, such as the business name, town, number of rentals and amenities, and we write our own short description. We never copy a host’s photos or text.

We also record the business email address published on the host’s website, so we can tell the host about the listing and confirm a claim. That address is kept in a private list. The website itself stores only a scrambled form of it, used to match a claim, and never shows it. Our emails to hosts include a way to opt out, and we stop emailing anyone who asks. Any host can ask us to remove their listing through the Request removal page.

Who else handles your information

  • Hostinger hosts the website and our email.
  • GitLab holds a private backup of our list of hosts’ published business contact details.
  • Google serves the site’s fonts, as described above.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

If Overnight Atlas is ever sold or becomes part of another business, the information described on this page would pass to the new owner, who would have to follow this policy or tell you before changing it.

How long we keep it

We keep form requests, host accounts and listing records while they are in use, and until you ask us to delete them. If you opt out of our emails, we keep your email address on a do-not-contact list so we do not email you again.

Your choices

Email listings@overnightatlas.com to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. We will reply within 30 days. Hosts can also edit their own profile after signing in, or ask for their listing to be removed through the Request removal page.

Children

Overnight Atlas is for adults planning trips and for rental businesses. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
